How do you make é with the keyboard? Not copying and pasting?

I'm starting in French and i'm really sick of finding a doent on the internet with an é in it. I don't think i can install any programs. And i have a laptop so i don't think i can do those number codes from a href="http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_you_type_an_acute_accent_over_a_letter" rel="nofollow"http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_you_typ…/a because it's not working even when i press num lock. So any idea on how i would do that?
