In love with an older guy?

I really like this older guy and sometimes he seems interested in me. He is 46, divorced with two kids and a doctor and I'm 26, never been married, still on school. I met him a year ago at college and he's been my physician, pre-med advisor, and friend for these past year. We have a pretty good relationship. He's great to me, very helpful and caring. When I got sick once and had to go through MRI's, he stay on call until 2 in the AM so he was sure my results were fine. His divorce was really painfull as far as I know. His ex is crazy and not even allowed to see her own kids (she threated them). For this reason, he seems pretty reluctant in getting involved with another person again. I admire him a lot for everything he's been through, for the person and doctor he is. I like him a lot but at the same time, I don't wanna mess up the beautiful friendship we have. I don't know if I should go for it or just enjoy him as friend. Any advices?
